Throughout High School, I had this swimming coach, Jon Aue. I grew more and more fond of him as the years passed, and still talk to him today. Well I mention this because he was in my odd dream last night. He was my coach again, but of some weird sport I'm going to have to explain.
It wasn't related to any sport I know of, except maybe capture the flag, or similar to Sabotage on Call of Duty. Four players, two from each team laid on their stomachs at the outside of this giant bowl (similar to a skating/biking bowl). It was about 10-12 feet deep, and probably around 20 feet across. in the center was a ball, about the size of a basketball, but solid black, and it weighed around 30 lbs. The goal was to slide in (on your stomach) beat the other team to the ball, through either speed or aggression, then carry that ball back out the way you came and place it on the pedestal behind where you started.
Also, while in the bowl, the players had to remain on at least their knees, only those in possession of the ball and those outside of the bowl were allowed to stand and run. Tackling was allowed, same with holding, pushing/shoving, dragging, and basically fighting. When the ball was placed on the pedestal, a point would be rewarded, and the players would return to their starting positions. This was the only time you could switch players or call TO's as well. To reset the ball, the ref would simply drop it back into the bowl, and through what seemed like magnets and a small raised circle at the center, the ball would locate itself and once it was steady, the next round would start.
False Starts appeared to be pretty serious, since my partner started early, and was pulled from the round, leaving me by myself against two people much larger than I. Needless to day I lost that round. I didn't notice any other penalties, but I'm sure if someone stood in the bowl without possession of the ball they would have been pulled as well. It seemed like fun; almost makes me want to try and make it a reality.
dude that sounds awesome!
