I've been having trouble remembering my dreams lately. This is probably because this past week was finals week at school, and on top of my mind being busy every conscious moment, I haven't been sleeping well. Most of my memorable dreams occur during my first REM cycle, and the past 4-5 nights, I've woken up every 45-60 minutes. So whatever portions of dreams I remember, are lost to the 5-8 segments of interrupted sleep. Luckily for me, two nights ago, I had a strangely vivid dream, and I've remembered enough to share.
I was with 2 other people, they were friends, and I knew them outside of the dream, but time has collected their names. We were traveling through some tropical forest, that had numerous rivers running through it like the veins on the back of your hand. As we trekked through this jungle, I marveled at the life in the waters, and we spent a lot of time in the water, since we had to cross a river every 40 feet.
I remember seeing these weird fish, that were about a foot long, fat like a salmon, and had black and orange vertical stripes lining their backs. I also remember finding and playing with tiger cubs, and seeing strange crane-like birds that also had the tiger stripes. Amongst the wildlife that weren't disguised as a tiger, there were frogs, snakes, monkeys, and a crocodile. After crossing probably 12 rivers, we reached the abrupt end of the jungle, which bordered a very large mass of water. In the distance we could see our boat, which looked as if it was assembled with random garbage, consisting of 50 gallon plastic barrels, wood, aluminum siding/roofing, and bright orange meshed fencing used to box off construction sites.
The land on the way to our boat was too overgrown to traverse, so we decided to wade in the waters along the shore, to get to our ship as fast as possible. I was maybe 10 feet behind my 2 friends, and I spotted a huge salt water crocodile stalking them. I told them to get out of the water, and my friend farthest from shore punched the croc right in the nose as he turned to run. Attempting to distract the reptile, I splashed water at it, and made noise. This did nothing, and the croc lept from the water and right before my friend got "Nommed", I awoke to my brother leaving for school.
